6 Months Old

Elyse is 6 months old today. As you know from previous posts Elyse has experienced a lot of new things this month and is getting better and better at sitting up on her own.

Here are a few thing we learned about Elyse in the last month:

  • She likes to know what's going on behind her so she arches her back so she can see
  • She likes to explore so she will grab anything within her reach
  • She likes chomping on envelopes and cardboard

Look how she has changed over the last 6 months.

Our Little Girl

Today we went to the doctor for Elyse's 6 month appointment. Can you believe she is about to be half a year old?! She is healthy and still our "little" girl. She weighs 13 lbs 7 oz and is 24 1/4 in long. She is in the 10th percentile in both categories. Her head is 41 3/4 cm and is in the 25-50 percentile range. Although she is on the small side, she is still on the same curve on the growth chart that she has been all her life and she is hitting all of her developmental milestones. Praise God for our healthy little girl.

And For Her Next Trick...

Our little Elyse Marie has a new trick. She can sit up on her own. She cannot stay in that position long, but as you can see she sat up long enough for me to take a picture. She is learning so much so fast. Before we know it she'll be driving.

New Things

The past week was filled with many new experiences for Elyse. First, her Grandparents came to visit from Indonesia. Now, this is not necessarily new, but they haven't seen each other in 5 months, so in a sense it was new. We had a great time with them even though they were here for only a few days. We had a third Christmas with them and Elyse's favorite gift was the the cardboard a rubberduck came in. She sat and chewed on that for quite awhile. The next new thing for Elyse was being introduced to "solid" foods. She ate rice cereal for the first time this week. The whole experience went very well. She attacked the spoon filled with food and eagarly ate it. The only thing that really got in the way of the food getting to her mouth was her bib. For the first time Elyse was wearing a plastic bib and she really liked chewing on that, so sometimes she wanted to chew the bib rather than the cereal. We eventually went back to her cloth bib so she would eat her food. Since eating the rice cereal, she has also tried oatmeal.
Here are some other things Elyse tried for the first time this week:
