Arriving In Phuket

We decided to go Phuket, Thailand for vacation. For those who don't know where that is. You can look at the map below. Phuket is an island off of the southwest coast of Thailand.

Our plane ride was short (about 2 hours), but not fun. Elyse, who is old enough to have her own seat, decided she didn't want to sit in her own seat and threw a fit. Very loud and unpleasant for all those around. She calmed down only after the seat belt sign had been turned off and Toby was able to walk around with her. She did this as we landed as well. Yuck.

But, we did arrive in Thailand safely and were met by a driver we had hired from the hotel. As we drove to our hotel (The Kamala Beach Hotel and Resort) we got to see the beautiful scenery. There was vegetation everywhere, mountains, and views of the ocean.

After we checked in we headed to the pool and then had dinner.

This is Elyse acting like an elephant. You can obviously see her arms are acting as the elephant's trunk :)

We had dinner at the hotel that night. Look at this great set up.

As most of you know, Elyse has an early bedtime and rarely is outside when it is dark. Here she is enjoying the beach, in the dark, and reaching for the moon. While we were walking along the beach, locals were sending up wishing "balloons." Basically it is a big cylinder made of paper with wires crossing on the bottom that hold a candle. You light the candle and then the hot air lifts the balloon into the sky. It is like a flying lantern. That's not the best description, but I hope you get the idea. The next day we were off to explore the island. Stay tuned...

Labrador Park

Today the family headed south to Labrador Park. When Toby told a co-worker that's where we were headed, he asked why we were going there- there is nothing there. Well, there is something there- trees, peace and quite and a breeze :)

We started out by walking through the jungle which had the remnants of an old fort. Unfortunately the secret tunnel (yes that's what it's called) was closed, but we got to see observation towers, cannons, and other aspects of the fort.

After we walked through the fort, we got to the water. The walkway was lined with trees which provided shade and there was a breeze coming off of the water. In the picture below you can see the end of Sentosa and Fort Siloso.

There was also this was great playground. It was meant for older kids, but Elyse had fun (with a little help from Toby) climbing around on all of the equipment.

We walked along the water for a bit and watched the boats come and go. The picture below is of Toby and Elyse watching a cruise ship come out of Singapore's Harbour.

Labrador park was wonderfully peaceful. There were not many people around and the weather today was great- the shade and breeze made it very comfortable. There were somethings we missed so we will be back, probably after the secret (shhh) tunnel opens up again.

Too Tall

Today Elyse and I were playing with Lego's and Elyse decided to she wanted to make a tall tower. She just kept adding and adding blocks. We used every single one and, as you can see, it got to be very tall (or as Elyse would say "too tall"). Elyse did most of it herself too. I just held it steady as she put each new block on. As I was getting the camera, Elyse decided to put a person on top. I am so happy it didn't topple over at that moment (pre-picture).

The tower did eventually fall, so we built another structure with a "tunnel" and "steps."

Murder Mystery Dinner

Last night our supper club got together to try and figure out who killed Stew Driver, an engineer aboard the MV Tipanic. It was the first murder mystery dinner I have hosted and I think we all had a good time.

Captain Birdseye and Lola Lilo (aka Justin and Jennifer)
Fifi Galores and Walter Ski (aka Camille and Blake)

Wanda Lust and Barry Glitter (aka Jessica and Travis)

Sylvester Stillstoned and Tilly Operator (aka Jacob and Melanie)

Trikki Shuffles and Al Fresco (aka Gillian and Jamey)

Sally Shipshape and Rusty Crankshaft (aka Jenn and Toby)

Here everyone is during one of the rounds. Lots of smiles on those faces. I think Fifi was laughing so hard she started to cry. Wait a minute... didn't someone just die?

Barry Glitter explaining why he is such a good guy and is the only one who cared about Stew. (By the way Barry was the murderer)

ABC

I turned on the video camera to catch Elyse singing her ABCs, but she stopped singing the recognizable version as the camera rolled. When she says "faster" in the video she then sings the ABCs very fast. So fast you can't tell what she is saying. I then left the camera on so you could get a glimpse of her playing and how much she talks.

Ok, so the video wouldn't download onto the blog so I put it on youtube. I don't know how to put a youtube video on my blog and have 2 year old on my lap, so I don't have time to look it up, so just click here to visit the video.
