Arriving In Phuket

We decided to go Phuket, Thailand for vacation. For those who don't know where that is. You can look at the map below. Phuket is an island off of the southwest coast of Thailand.

Our plane ride was short (about 2 hours), but not fun. Elyse, who is old enough to have her own seat, decided she didn't want to sit in her own seat and threw a fit. Very loud and unpleasant for all those around. She calmed down only after the seat belt sign had been turned off and Toby was able to walk around with her. She did this as we landed as well. Yuck.

But, we did arrive in Thailand safely and were met by a driver we had hired from the hotel. As we drove to our hotel (The Kamala Beach Hotel and Resort) we got to see the beautiful scenery. There was vegetation everywhere, mountains, and views of the ocean.

After we checked in we headed to the pool and then had dinner.

This is Elyse acting like an elephant. You can obviously see her arms are acting as the elephant's trunk :)

We had dinner at the hotel that night. Look at this great set up.

As most of you know, Elyse has an early bedtime and rarely is outside when it is dark. Here she is enjoying the beach, in the dark, and reaching for the moon. While we were walking along the beach, locals were sending up wishing "balloons." Basically it is a big cylinder made of paper with wires crossing on the bottom that hold a candle. You light the candle and then the hot air lifts the balloon into the sky. It is like a flying lantern. That's not the best description, but I hope you get the idea. The next day we were off to explore the island. Stay tuned...

The ballons are called Lucky Lanterns and during the Chinese New Year they are everywhere... Pierce got to do one when we were in Thailand last month and loved it... they really are amazing... we don't believe in Luck but we do believe in cool things... HE HE HE
