Cambodia: Arrival and Ta Prohm

After a month delay (due to Anastasia's hospital stay) we were finally able to take our trip to Siem Riep, Cambodia. Unfortunately our plane was delayed by about 1.5 hours, but at least the Singapore airport is awesome and has a playground among other things to entertain kids.

We arrived at night, but when we woke up the next morning we got to explore the grounds of our hotel: Angkor Village Resort
There pool was built like a river that wound its way through the different "cottages."
View from our room:

We explored temples in the morning, but in the afternoon we enjoyed some time in the pool.
The resort had 2 boats and Elyse enjoyed riding in them.

Rewind to our morning:

We were all up in plenty of time to meet up with our guide and driver at 7:30.

Side note: I had booked a tour through AboutAsia which boasted of accommodating kids and also staying away from the crowds as we explored the temples. Through emails back and forth we were able to come up with an itinerary that suited our family. They were also very understanding when we had to postpone our trip and worked with us to reschedule. I would recommend this company.

Back to the temples: Our first temple was Ta Prohm. This is the temple known for the trees growing all around it and was featured in Tomb Raider.

This temple is currently being restored. These are the stones that they found within the temple. They are labeled and waiting to be fitted back together.

Views from within the temple. Elyse was excited to go inside and explore.

Anastasia got a good view of the temple from Toby's back.
Inside the towers they had a place for a Buddha statue where people could come and worship. They would light incense and the smoke would go through the holes in the top of the tower.

A root winding around like a snake:
Elyse enjoyed watching this man paint picture of the temple.
One of many carvings. This one is of a a temple dancer called an apsara.

I enjoyed this temple and it made all the pictures I had seen come to life.
